After 14 years of retailing at Borough Market, Saturday September 4th will see a large gap where Booth’s fruit and veg stall used to be. Booth’s is headed by Tony Booth, who’s been in the business for over 50 years. Even at 75 he was always on the stall proffering fabulous advice on what to eat, when and how. He keeps close ties with all of the growers he works with ensuring that the quality of his fruit and veg is second to none: the list of his wholesale customers is a roll call of the capital’s Michelin restaurants
His departure from Borough is a sad day for the market. For many people Booths was an integral part of their shopping circuit there. Let’s hope that the rumours about The West Cornish Pasty Co. filling his space prove to be nothing more than that. The GOOD news is that Tony will be retailing from his new Druid Street railway arch every Friday and Saturday and that’s just down the road from us. It’s also no more than a 5 minute drive (or 15 minute walk) from Borough Market so you can still pick up your favourite bits there and come to get his fruit and veg. If you come to see him this weekend why not get some of his Italian figs to have with our Parma Ham and buffalo mozzarella. Jamie Oliver suggests that this is the sexiest combination in the world. Who am I to disagree?
